Police officer shot dead on first day of patrol duty

A police officer was shot dead, Saturday evening, when she, along with two other officers, responded to a call about a possible domestic matter in Prince William County in Virginia, US.

“When they got to the door, the suspect started shooting,” County Attorney Paul Ebert said.

Officer Ashley Guindon was shot and killed while the other two officers were wounded.

It was barely 24 hours since she was sworn in, a police tweet indicates.

All three officers were flown by helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital. Police did not release details about the condition or the names of the two injured officers, but Ebert said both were in “okay” condition, Washington Post reports.

One Ronald Hamilton has been arrested in relation to the shooting and faces six charges including capital murder.

Hamilton is an active-duty Army staff sergeant based at the Pentagon, family and military sources say.

His wife was also found dead in their home..
