Police investigating #SaveMayowa “scam” – LUTH source confirms

Mayowa
Mayowa’s family called for help from Nigerians after months of battling with a disease they later found out to be cancer. And they got it!

The #SaveMayowa campaign which raised over N32 million naira for Ahmed Mayowa, a cancer patient, might just be a scam.

Doctors at the Lagos Teaching University Hospital (LUTH) allegedly told Mayowa’s family their daughter would not survive.

But the family went ahead to raise funds to seek foreign medical treatment for their beloved daughter.

It’s unclear whether the family wanted to defraud Nigerians or simply raised the funds in hope Mayowa would survive if treated overseas — an hope normal people should have.

It is being alleged the family didn’t fully disclose LUTH’s medical verdict on Mayowa to the compassionate Nigerian public which raised N32 million for the lady in three days.

Celebrity actress, Toyim Aimakhu, supported the #SaveMayowa social media campaign which successfully raised over N32 million in three days.

We authoritatively report the Nigerian police is now interested in the case. A LUTH source told us so.

He’s a reliable source who asked to not be mentioned because he’s not authorized to speak on the matter.

Nigerian celebrity Toyin Aimakhu, who spearheaded the fundraising, was at LUTH on Thursday, the source confirmed to NewsroomNG. She was in the company of police officers and Mayowa’s family members.
“Yes I saw the Nigerian celebrity,” the source told our correspondent.

“She was with the police. Mayowa’s family members were also here. But I can’t confirm if any of them were under arrest.

“But I can tell you the police is now investigating the case,” he said.

We asked if it was true LUTH advised the family to give up on Mayowa because recovery was medically impossible. He wouldn’t confirm that.

“Please know that the allegations are not against LUTH,” he said. “The management is aware of the matter. The security agencies are investigating the matter. LUTH will issue an official statement at the right time.”

Lagos State police spokesperson Dolapo Badmus has not responded to our queries on the matter..
