Police in Edo State nab former Ambrose Ali University cultist with guns

The Edo State Police Command has arrested one Wilson Iriajien, a 47-year-old graduate of Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma, Edo State, for being in possession of two pump action and unlicensed double barrel guns.

According to Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 5, Benin, Mr. Rasheed Olatunde, who addressed reporters in Benin, while parading the suspect on on Tuesday (July 31) in Benin, the arrest was in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to mop up illegal arms.

Iriajien who claimed to be an international businessman dealing on arms for over 7 years told journalists that the double barrel rifles were an inheritance from his deceased father who passed on in 2004 while admitting that the pump action rifles were for his self-protection.

The suspect also revealed that during his time at Ambrose Ali University in the 1990s, he was a member of the “Eiye Confraternity but has since renounced his membership of the illegal cult group.

Police spokesman for the Edo State command, Mr Emeka Iheanacho disclosed that apart from the guns, other items recovered from the suspect included an Apple laptop, three international passports and wrapped substance suspected to be Indian hemp. Iheanacho added that investigations into the arrest were still ongoing, assuring that the suspect will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
