Police bust robbery, kidnap, car-snatching gang terrorising Kaduna and its environs

Police have arrested eighteen suspects allegedly terrorising Kaduna and its environs through kidnappings and armed robbery.

The suspects, according to the police, were responsible for various crimes in and around Katsina, Niger, and Cross River states.

Police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, said in a statement on Monday that 93 Suspects were also arrested in connection with the multiple killings and destruction of properties in Kaduna. He added that 43 suspects were already facing prosecution while 50 suspects were undergoing interrogation.

In a related incident, 10 suspects were arrested for kidnapping one Abdulhazeez Abdulbazir Basir in Funtua, Katsina.

Moshood identified the suspects as: Hussaini Abdullahi, 42; Ibrahim Umar, 60; Abubakar Idris, 20; Samaila Abdullahi, 28; Saidu Ibrahim, 20; Halidu Ibrahim, 30; Shaibu Maikudi, 20; Ibrahim Alhasan, 45; Mohammed Adamu, 22; and Shehu Lawal, 32.

Five AK47 rifles, one locally made pump action rifle, and 105 AK47 Ammunition were recovered from them.

According to the police, the suspects invaded the house of one Abdulbasir Abubakar on August 12 and robbed him of valuables. They also kidnapped his 8-year-old son, Abdulhazeez, and held him in captivity for 11 days. Abdulhazeez was released only after a ransom was paid.

Some of the suspects paraded on Monday.

The suspects were said to have admitted to the crime.

Two other suspects – ex-convict Lawali Abubakar, 35; and Adamu Dahiru, 56 – were arrested for attacking residents and travellers along Kaduna-Abuja and Kaduna – Niger highways.

Six more suspects – Abdulsalam Adamu, 30; Ali Isa, 35; Abubakar Usman, 35, Hamisu Abdulahi, 34; Adamu Usman, 28; and Musa Jafaru, 32 – were arrested for car snatching activities in Cross River.

They allegedly stole a Toyota Camry vehicle on September 13.

Moshood added that investigations into all the cases were being concluded and all suspects would be arraigned in court.
