Police Arrests Gun Smuggler in Kaduna, Confiscates AK-47 Guns

An infamous gun smuggler has been apprehended by the Kaduna State Police Command, Neusroom gather.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed this in Kaduna, on Friday.

Hassan disclosed that, no fewer than 20 locally fabricated AK-47 rifles were recovered from the suspect after the arrest conducted on Thursday, September 19, 2024.

He revealed that the rifles and an empty Type 06 magazine were concealed in the boot of a black Golf III saloon vehicle.

The suspect, according to Hassan, was identified as Bitrus Gyang, hailing from Barkin Ladi in Plateau State.

The suspect is said to have admitted his crimes and confessed to smuggling fabricated rifles on three separate occasions.

Gyang is beleived to be working closely with the Police in their investigation even as they look to nab his associates.

Hassan decalred that the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna, Audu Dabigi, is pleased with the arrest carried out.

The Commissioner aired his assertion of the Police’s zeal to stamp out kidnappers and bandits in the state.

“On September 19, 2024, at about 1600 hours, officers from Buruku Division, while conducting a routine patrol at Buruku Bridge, intercepted a black Golf III saloon vehicle.

“Upon a thorough search of the vehicle, the officers discovered twenty (20) locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and an empty Type 06 magazine hidden in the vehicle’s boot. The suspect was identified as Bitrus Gyang, a male from Barkin Ladi, Plateau State.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a gunrunner and revealed that he had transported fabricated rifles on at least three previous occasions.

“The suspect is currently cooperating with the police, and efforts are underway to track down his other accomplices.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Ali Dabigi psc, commended the officers for their efforts and dedication to duty. He also assured the public that kidnappers and bandits would continue to have no breathing space throughout the state,” the police spokesman said.

In other news, the Nigeria Police Force, on Tuesday, announced a raid on a gun smuggling syndicate, nabbing 2,700 suspects in the process.
