Police apprehends notorious gun smuggler in Zamfara

He is said to have confessed to making most of the guns by himself.

An operation carried out by the Zamfara State Police Command has led to the arrest of a notorious gun smuggler who has been supplying weapons to bandits in the state.

In recent times, Zamfara has been been boiling over with violent attacks from unknown gunmen, and the police has been struggling to restore peace in several communities that are constantly under attack.

The  Commissioner of Police in the state, Alhaji Zanna Mohammed Ibrahim revealed that the suspect, Umaru Shehu was in possession of eleven guns as at the time he was arrested. He is said to have confessed to making most of the guns by himself and selling each piece for N3,500.

“The guns meant for supply to bandits in the bush were recovered in his possession,” Mohammed said.

“After some overwhelming revelations, the suspect has been subjected to discreet investigation with a view to effect the arrest of his accomplices.”

The police disclosed that their concerted effort and determination has been yielding positive results as the command continues to work to clear the state of all bandits and troublemakers.
