Hundreds of commuters narrowly escaped death early Thursday morning after a train derailed from its tracks along Mangoro area of Lagos.
The commuters were travelling from Ijoko, Ogun State, to Ebute Metta, Lagos, when the accident occurred. Many people were injured but, thankfully, no life was lost. The victims were taken to the hospital.
LASEMA blamed the accident on faulty tracks.
The agency said the tracks had been marked for repair.
“Efforts are currently being made to evacuate the derailed coaches as the Nigeria Railway Corporation crane has been dispatched to the scene from Lagos Island,” the agency said in a statement.
Recovery operation by the officials of the Nigeria Railway Corporation had commenced since the accident occurred.
