In what has been described as a fresh breath of relief by Gambia nationals, the return of new president Adama Barrow was wildly celebrated on the streets.

Youths, elderly, women, men and children were ecstatic and couldn’t hide their joy as they sang the new president’s praises.

Adama Barrow returned to The Gambia on Thursday after spending the last week of Yahya Jammeh’s tenure in Senegal for security reasons.

He had been sworn-in at the country’s embassy in Senegal on January 19 due a political impasse in Gambia after Jammeh expressed his unwillingness to relinquish power.

Jammeh was subsequently pressured by ECOWAS to go on exile in Equitorial Guinea.
