Nigerian children, and their parents, displaced by sundry environmental disasters and the Boko Haram insurgency have been given a reason to smile.
Vice president Yemi Osinbajo had visited an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp at Dalori, Maiduguri, on July 1 and didn’t like what he saw.
“The distribution followed a directive by VP Prof Yemi Osinbajo after his visit to the camps early this month,” The National Emergency Agency (NEMA) tweeted, Wednesday.
The VP was not there alone. Everyone on his entourage was saddened by the plight of the IDPs whom whistle-blowers say are not be cared for appropriately.
“Worried by what they saw…the kind of clothes the kids were putting on…they directed that sewing machines be made available to tailors in the camps.”
That was how the tailors, who have also been displaced from their homes, came to the rescue.
Now the kids and their children can smile even as Sallah celebration nears.
“After assessing the situation, we were directed to add ready-made clothes for the kids in camps, especially as the Sallah celebration approaches,” NEMA said.
