PDP BoT Meeting Descends into Chaos Amid Leadership Feud
A heated physical altercation broke out at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headquarters in Abuja on Thursday during a meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT).
According to The Cable, the clash erupted after party chieftain Sunday Ude-Okoye was reportedly barred from entering the venue of the BoT meeting, which had been officially convened by BoT Chairman and former Senate President Adolphus Wabara at 12:05 p.m.
The conflict traces back to 2023, when the PDP’s South East zone nominated Ude-Okoye, a former National Youth Leader, to replace Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary. This followed Anyanwu’s emergence as the party’s governorship candidate in Imo State, a move that prompted the South East chapter to argue he could not hold both roles simultaneously.

The leadership tussle took a legal turn when the Court of Appeal in Enugu ruled on December 20, 2024, affirming Ude-Okoye as the rightful National Secretary. The judgment was formally communicated to the PDP leadership on December 24. However, the dispute took another twist last week when the Abuja division of the Court of Appeal issued a contradictory order, instructing Anyanwu to retain the position until the Supreme Court resolves the matter.
The conflicting court rulings have plunged the party into uncertainty, with factions divided over which directive to follow. Supporters of Ude-Okoye insist the Enugu court’s decision should prevail, while allies of Anyanwu cite the Abuja court’s interim injunction.
