Osun Election: ICPC official confronts man counting voters at Ede polling unit
An official of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confronted a man over an attempt to count voters at a polling unit in Ede, Osun State.
The incident occurred at Akoda Ward 9, Unit 1, as voters gathered to participate in the ongoing Osun State governorship election.
A video shared on Saturday showed the ICPC official questioning the man, who appeared to be a voter, about his decision to keep a record of the number of people at the polling unit.
The official instructed him to stop counting the voters and advised him to join the queue once voting commenced.
“When the election commences, we queue up. We are here to monitor. We don’t want any problems,” the official said.
He also warned the man against recording the number of voters at the polling unit, saying, “You don’t have any right to be writing numbers. You know your job.”
The incident comes amid heightened monitoring by security and electoral officials across Osun State to prevent electoral malpractice and other activities that could disrupt the exercise.
The state has 2,339,233 registered voters, according to figures released ahead of the election. Of this number, 1,906,390, representing 81.50 per cent, collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and are eligible to vote.
Voting is taking place across 3,763 polling units in 332 wards spread across the state’s 30 local government areas.
