Oscar Pistorius loses grandfather, to secure temporary release from prison
Oscar Pistorius will get another temporary release from prison to attend his late grandfather’s burial.
Pistorius is currently serving 15-year jail term after firing shots that killed model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp at his bathroom in South Africa.
The 31-year-old claimed he thought a burglar had broken into his home on Valentine’s Day in 2013.
His grandfather, Hendrik Pistorius died aged 101 and he has applied to pay his late respect.
Pistorius last saw Hendrik during a prison open day visit last year.
There are concerns that the former national hero may be getting preferential treatment by prison officials in what would be his third opportunity to be out of Atteridgeville Prison walls in Pretoria. He is likely to become eligible for parole around 2023.
Prison authorities, according to Daily Mail, said that Pistorius did not enjoy any preferential treatment and has been well behaved since his incarceration.
