Olayinka Adeshina: ‘We are investigating’ – Police say as friends mourn vendor found dead in Ibadan hotel
The Oyo State Police Command, on Sunday, April 9, 2023, told Neusroom they are investigating the death of Olayinka ‘Khadi’ Adeshina, found dead in a hotel in Ibadan.
Olayinka Adeshina popularly known as Khadi was found dead at Wetland Hotel in the Akobo area of Ibadan on Thursday, April 6, 2023. She ran an online retail store ‘Shop With Khadi’ on Instagram where she sold clothing, shoes and fashion accessories.
Although details about her death are still sketchy, multiple sources said she had lodged in the hotel on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, with a male friend whose identity is yet to be revealed.
“Investigation has commenced into the incident,” Adewale Osifeso, the Oyo Police PRO told Neusroom on Sunday, April 9, 2023. “Updates would be provided accordingly.”
Wetland Hotel also told Neusroom on Sunday that it has been cooperating with the authorities with their investigation as “the matter is wholly a Police case”.
The hotel management said it has given the Police full statement and information about the incident.
“We regret to inform you that an unfortunate incident occurred at our hotel, Wetland Hotel. One of our guests passed away while staying with us,” Wetland Hotel said in a statement sent to Neusroom.
“We are fully cooperating with the authorities in their investigation into this matter, and we assure you that we are doing everything we can to assist the police in their efforts to determine the cause of death.”
It added: “please [be] rest assured that the safety and well-being of our guests and staff are our top priority. We have taken all necessary measures to ensure that our facilities and services continue to meet the highest standards of hygiene and safety.”
Report of her death has sparked reactions and conspiracies about her personality online following claims that she was in the hotel with a man.
A Facebook user, Ismail Adebisi, who claimed he saw Adeshina last on Monday described the deceased as a hardworking lady and Church goer.
Another Facebook user who debunked some of the conspiracies about the deceased, said “Khadi isn’t into hookup. She has knows the guy for long and the guy sister know her. The guy left the hotel for an important meeting in the morning and the receptionist confirmed she’s hale and healthy. It was after the guy left she borrowed power bank. The receptionist confirmed she’s fine when borrowed it. She was later found dead and the guy was called by one of the hotel workers. The guy rushed there immediately in shock and he was arrested.”
Neusroom could not independently confirm these claims as the Facebook users are yet to respond to messages sent to them.
