Ogun police arrest doctor, nurse after patient dies from abortion
Police in Ogun say a doctor and his nurse have been arrested for allegedly killing a pregnant woman.
The woman, identified as Aminat Atisola, had called Dr Olawale Raji to her residence to abort her 2-month-old pregnancy.
Aminat, according to the police spokesperson in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, developed complications shortly after the abortion was carried out, and died as she was being rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.
The doctor and nurse Funmilayo Olusegun were arrested last Thursday.
The state Commissioner for Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered that the suspects be transferred to homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Abeokuta, for proper investigation and prosecution.
He warned that “abortion remains illegal and whoever caught engaging in it without any medical justification will have the law of the land to contend with.”
