Since 2018, the MTN ASAP initiative has committed to increasing awareness of substance abuse and addiction among youths. The multi-stakeholder intervention also seeks to discourage first-time users from taking the first step to possible addiction.

This year, MTN ASAP, in collaboration with Netng, Hip TV, MTV Base, Business Day and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), is organising a webinar in commemoration of the 2021 World Drug Day. The webinar, themed “Share Facts On Drugs, Save Lives”, will feature an intense panel session on drug abuse prevention, which will be moderated by music artiste and anti-abuse campaigner David Jones David.

Odunayo Sanya graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Abuja. She is an alumnus of the Lagos Business School, as well as the Institute of Management Development in Switzerland. She has also received certifications from the Harvard Business School and Cornell University.

Sanya, who has been at MTN Nigeria since 2005, currently serves as the Executive Secretary of MTN Foundation. Prior to that, she worked as the General Manager (Planning and Customer Management) at MTN Nigeria. Her book ‘The alphabets of leadership for young minds’ is listed in the United States Library of Congress. She is also a Mentor on the platform of WISCAR (Women in Successful Careers).

Sanya was a speaker at the MTN ASAP Drug Convos in 2020, where she stressed the need to have more discussions centred around drug abuse prevention.

“We need to have various conversations that speak on the importance of not getting into drug abuse. The curriculum is very important; using real-life examples of people who went down that path and where it led to”, she had said.
