Nnamdi Kanu rejects bail, vows to die with detained Biafra agitators
Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu has reportedly rejected the bail granted to him on Tuesday.
Kanu is being tried for treason for calling for the creating of another country, Biafra, out of Nigeria.
Justice Binta Nyako granted Kanu bail on health grounds.
Co-accused persons, Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi, were, however, denied bail.
Reports say that was why Kanu refused the bail.
”I just finished speaking with Kanu,” Daily Post quoted a source to have said.
“He has vowed to remain at Kuje prisons pending when his co-accused persons are granted bail.
“He made it clear that these other three persons were arrested because of him (Nnamdi) and as such he can’t abandon them there.
“Nnamdi Kanu has, therefore, made it clear that he is ready to stay and die at Kuje Prisons,” the source reportedly said.
The Nigerian government has detained Kanu since October 2015. He’s being held at Kuje Prisons.
Some Nigerians have taken to Twitter to condemn the government.
