Nigerians Experience Poor Internet Connection on #EndBadGovernance Protest Day
As the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest begins across the country today, many Nigerians are witnessing poor internet connectivity, making it difficult for the protest to be widely reported and shared online.
The protest, which began in various cities including Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt, saw citizens taking to the streets to demand an end to bad governance and systemic issues plaguing the country.
However, many participants and supporters faced significant challenges in communicating their activities due to unusually slow internet speeds.
Although, the reason behind the poor connectivity remains unclear. Speculation is rife, with some attributing the issue to a potential government move to stifle the protests, while others believe it might be a result of technical failures.

However, recall that earlier in the week, after SIMs of many Nigerians were barred from making or receiving calls, Telecom Operators in the country, in a statement, said that it was not related to the protest.

“There’s absolutely no connection between the two. The NIN/SIM link registration deadline was earlier set for July 31, 2024,” said Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, ALTON Chairman, in the statement.
He further said “the harmonization exercise of the SIM Registration database and National Identity Database has been ongoing for several months. This is aimed at improving the integrity of the National SIM registration database. Customers who had their lines blocked recently are those whose service providers found a mismatch between their records on both databases.”
