Nigerians bash Chimamanda Adichie over “extreme” feminism views after Hillary Clinton interview
Renowned feminist Chimamanda Adichie is not very popular among Nigerians today. The award-winning writer has been accused of having “extreme” views on feminism.
Adichie had, on Sunday night, challenged America’s former First Lady and presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton on why her Twitter bio had “wife” and “grandmother” in it, rather than something more qualifying.
Adichie pointed out during the PEN World Voices Festival over the weekend that Hillary’s husband, Bill, had his career accomplishments with no mention of “husband”.
“In your Twitter account, the first word that describes you is ‘Wife’. And then I think it’s ‘Mom’, and then it’s ‘Grandmother’,” Adichie said.
“And when I saw that, I have to confess that I felt just a little bit upset. And then I went and I looked at your husband’s Twitter account, and the first word was not ‘husband’,” she added.

Hillary promptly replied that “when you put it like that, I’m going to change it”. But the former US Secretary of State further explained that she believes women should be able to celebrate both their accomplishments and relationships, citing Barbara Bush, the late First Lady.
Quite a number of Nigerians have condemned Adichie’s feminist views.
“Chimamanda Adichie is UPSET because Hillary Clinton’s Twitter Bio starts with “Wife” among many other ‘qualifications. Beyonce just gave Adichie the platform to derail her career as a writer. She’s become the leader of a bickering, self righteous, shrilling mob. Shame,” one person, Kelvin said.
Another person, Jeffery said “Chimamanda Adichie actually sounds toxic many times”.

My dear Chimamanda Adichie, do not confuse feminism with stupidity. use your head. @onochie_r

Chimamanda Adichie is leading a fascist mob and it’s foundation is only ruled by malevolence… More a danger to women than an advantage… To think her pro-feminist thesis says otherwise means a lot.

The first black president of the United States, Obama has “husband” in his bio but Aunty Chimamanda is upset the Hilary Clinton has “wife” in her bio. Smh.

OK I love chimamanda but this one does not concern her, Hilary can put whatever she wants in her bio, being a wife doesn’t stop her from achieving her goals. And also being married is also a goal for people. Live and let live

Adichie, however, had many people firmly in her corner. Those who are of the opinion that her concerns were valid and non-provocative.
Adichie asked a former Sec Gen, a US presidential candidate. You know why? Because she’s a powerful woman. Chimamanda has consistently pushed the feminism agenda. She’s met with so many obstacles and understands that everything counts.

Some of you people think Chimamanda Adichie just wrote an article on some blog or gave an interview. She was in a conference, she was interacting with Hillary Clinton, and they were communicating, and she asked some questions but no, you all don’t read, you all like headlines
