Esther Adebayo, a widow who lives in the UK, is desperately worried about her daughter, Elizabeth Mitchell, who suddenly fell ill in June, 2015.

Having lost her husband some 28 years back, another loss stares her in the face unless she can raise up to N8 million to pay for her daughter’s kidney transplant.

And that is apart from the regular payments for dialysis which has been huge themselves.

Adebayo’s worry is justified as she can’t continue to afford Mitchell’s medical bills by herself.

Here’s what she wrote on the gofundme account she opened February 27:

“I work long shifts day in day out and send every penny I have to fund her treatment, I have run up huge debts and have no way to repay them and pay for my daughters transplant. I have worked all my life, I lost my husband 28 years ago and have no support under this crippling financial strain.

She narrates how it all began:

Elizabeth was first taken ill last year in June. She felt unwell whilst at work and was sent home. Later that day she was rushed to hospital. After a blood test and transfusion, She was still unwell.

Elizabeth began to feel crippling tiredness, high blood pressure, loss of speech and mobility. She attended the General Hospital where she was unable to to receive treatment due to high demand and low government funding of public healthcare in Nigeria.

Elizabeth went to a private practice where she was diagnosed with Hyperehoic Right Renal Parenchyma and Loss of Corticodemedullary differentiation which indicates that Elizabeth has Medical Renal Disease.

Elizabeth underwent Kidney Dialysis and blood transfusion after which she began to feel well again until 2 weeks later her legs began to swell. She lost her appetite and again was unable to eat and her breathing became very difficult and so began the cycle of needing dialysis every few weeks.

She has undergone treatment 12 times since November last year, she has had to give up her job as a receptionist as she is too ill to work now. The doctors at the Dialyzer Specialist Medical Centre in Lagos have told her that her kidneys are shrinking and she needs a transplant before they fail.

And this is her prayer:

I pray somebody reads this and can help me save my daughters life. I can’t describe how grateful I will be for any donation or help kind people can offer as you can imagine I am just so desperate with worry I don’t know what else to do.
