Nigerian family feeds baby to dog because teenage mother was raped
For nine months, Nigerian teenager Wosila Halilu allegedly carried a pregnancy fathered by a 27-year-old farmer to whom she was never married.
The 15-year-old girl alleged Musa Garba, the farmer, raped her inside a farm in Saika village, in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
After Wosila delivered the baby, her family allegedly held a meeting where it was decided that it would be a shameful thing for the baby – an alleged product of rape – to live.
The teenage girl, her mother and three step brothers were allegedly present at the meeting where a shocking decision was reached – they would not just kill the innocent child but also feed it remains to a village dog.
And so they did, it is being alleged.
The matter did not become public knowledge until Saika village head discovered what was said to have happened and alerted the police.
The case was taken before Magistrate Nura Ladan after Wosila, her mother and step brothers were arrested. The alleged rapist farmer was also arrested.
They are being tried on three counts of culpable homicide and criminal conspiracy. The farmer has an extra count of rape hanging on his neck.
The magistrate adjourned the case till August 8. The police have been urged to conduct further investigation into the shocking development..
