Nigerian chief commits suicide, blames Buhari

The body of Chief Ekanem Edet, 50, was found dangling from a rope tied to the roof of his room at Mbiabong Itam in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

According to sources, the deceased, popularly called Jolly Boy had waited until his family left the house before he took his own life. He allegedly left a suicide note in which he blamed his action on the harsh economic situation of the country.

The body of the deceased was discovered  by his friend, who went to visit him. He was immediately buried after some traditional rites of passages had been performed.

Late Ekanem Edet was known as a very sociable person who had always freely expressed his thoughts on issues, he had, days before his death, complained bitterly about the present situation of the economy.

It was gathered that the deceased who used to sell Ogogoro, cigarettes and other stimulants, decided to take his life after he found it really hard to provide basic needs for his family- his wife and two sons.

He had always blamed the government for the economic policies that do not allow him afford basic commodities such as garri, bread, yam, rice, beans, oil, kerosene and other essential goods.
