FULL LIST: Nigeria ranks 5th, Kenya, South Africa ahead in global daily social media usage
Two African countries, Kenya and South Africa, ranked ahead of Nigeria on the list of countries with top social media usage in 2024.
Dubbed the Giant of Africa, Nigeria is not only the nation with the highest population on the continent but also has the highest number of youth population with a large chunk of them said to be living on the internet.
However, figures from Cable.co.uk and We Are Social in 2024, posted by World of Statistics on X on Sunday, November 3, 2024, placed Nigeria fifth globally for average daily time spent online.

Nigeria ranks below South Africa and Kenya
A deep dive into the data showed that Nigerians spend an average of 3 hours and 23 minutes per day on social media.
Kenya, however, takes the lead with people spending the most time on social media at 3 hours and 43 minutes daily, closely followed by South Africa whose citizens spend 3 hours and 37 minutes.
Brazil and the Philippines are third and fourth respectively with the former recording 3 hours and 34 minutes, while the latter had 3 hours and 33 minutes.
Other countries with high social media usage include Colombia (3:22), Chile (3:11), and Indonesia (3:11). Saudi Arabia and Argentina round out the top ten with daily averages of 3 hours and 10 minutes and 3 hours and 8 minutes, respectively.
