Nigeria Customs Records 56% of Annual Target in H1 2025

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) collected N3.68 trillion in revenue during the first half (H1) of 2025, exceeding its projection for the period by N390.20 billion, an 11.85 per cent performance above expectations.

In a statement on Tuesday, Abdullahi Maiwada, NCS public relations officer, said the achievement was reviewed at the service’s 63rd regular board meeting, chaired by Wale Edun, minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy.

Between 1st January and 30th June 2025, the Service recorded a total revenue collection of N3,682,496,530,576.48, representing a remarkable performance above expectations,” Maiwada said.

This figure surpassed the projected revenue for the period by N390,197,847,119.32, equivalent to 11.85%, reflecting the Service’s strengthened capacity in revenue mobilisation. In practical terms, this signifies that within six months, the NCS has already achieved 55.93% of its annual revenue target.

The service attributed the record performance to ongoing reforms, improved stakeholder compliance, and wider use of technology in customs operations.

Maiwada said milestones under the trade modernisation project included the wider deployment of the unified customs management system (UCMS), the arrival of six scanners, including an FS6000 model to boost non-intrusive inspections, and the procurement of electronic cargo tracking system (ECTS) equipment.

He added that the NCS also set up a centralised image analysis system (CIAS), reinforced cybersecurity, operationalised a multi-channel helpdesk, and delivered targeted capacity-building programmes.

The board acknowledged that these developments further align Nigeria’s clearance processes with international best practices,” he noted.

At the meeting, the board also approved appointments of four deputy comptroller-generals (DCGs) and 12 assistant comptroller-generals (ACGs) to fill vacancies created by retirements and strengthen equitable representation in leadership. In addition, 3,312 senior officers and 202 junior officers were promoted, while disciplinary actions led to the demotion of two officers and the reinstatement of two others.

Bashir Adeniyi, Comptroller-General of NCS, congratulated the newly appointed and promoted officers, charging them to justify the confidence reposed in them. He reaffirmed the service’s commitment to innovation, inclusivity, transparency, and excellence in service delivery.
