Obasanjo: “Nigeria has become a burial ground of policies”
Every successful organisation and country relies on policies to provide a framework that governs actions taken to ensure progress
Nigeria is no exception, but with the constant regression experienced in the country, former president Olusegun Obasanjo at an event in Abuja on Saturday blamed the current crop of leaders for failing to implement existent policies.
He noted that there are already policies on ground but the leaders have failed to implement them.
Speaking further, he said that Nigeria will continue to stumble and never progress if Nigeria continues being a burial ground for unimplemented policies.
The inaction of the leaders, according to him has made the nation move a step forward and three steps backwards.
“It is not enough for leaders to have policies or make statements. We are not short of policies in Nigeria. “Unfortunately, Nigeria has become a burial ground of policies that are either unimplemented or unexecuted”.
“Those who make progress achieved progress, not based on wishing to make progress, but on taking actions. They do not take two steps forward and three steps backward.“
Regrettably, this is what we are doing in every aspect of our national life. And as long as we are doing things this way, progress will elude us”.
He admonished leaders to ensure policies are implemented to make the nation progress
