Kiriji War, Adubi War, Biafra War – Untold Stories of conflicts that shaped Nigeria’s history

As Nigeria celebrates 60 years of independence from colonial rule, it is another good time to bring to fore some of the events that have shaped the history of the nation.

Understanding the history of Nigeria would not be sufficient without understanding some of the conflicts that have shaped the country’s pre- and post-independence history.

Some of the conflicts which include the Kiriji or Ekiti Parapo War of 1887, the Adubi War of 1918, and the Biafra War of 1967 have been included in ’Neusroom Untold’, a collection of 78 stories about important people, places and events that have shaped Nigeria’s history.

Launched by Marketing, Media and Technology company, ID Africa, on Thursday October 1, 2020, the collection is in celebration of Nigeria’s 60th independence anniversary.

According to the founder and publisher of Neusroom and Netng, Ayeni Adekunle, the project reflects the country’s rich history, achievers and events that particularly young Nigerians will find interesting and useful.

“With The Neusroom Untold Project, we are celebrating Nigeria’s journey as a progressive nation with a spotlight on all of its important contributors whose stories may have been lost in the archives or not being told at all,” Ayeni added.

The outcomes of these conflicts have shaped Nigeria’s history and have continued to affect the lives of citizens, negatively and positively.

These conflicts, combined, caused more than three million deaths and went on for years, while the Kiriji War lasted for over a decade and went down in history as the world’s longest ethnic war.

Over 50 years after the Biafra War, a product of the secession of the Eastern region from Nigeria, there are still cases of violent clashes between security operatives and Biafra agitators. Some of these clashes have led to the death of dozens of people in the last 10 years.
