Nasarawa monarch’s wife to die by hanging for poisoning her husband
The wife of the late Gom Mama of Kwarra Chiefdom in Wamba area of Nasarawa state has been sentenced to death by hanging for having a hand in the death of her husband.
Mrs Amina Zubairu, was convicted in a judgement delivered by Justice Aisha Bashir at the Nasarawa State High Court sitting in Lafia for beign guilty of the charge brought against her as the main suspect in the murder of Alhaji Adamu Zubairu in 2014.
The monarch who was a first class traditional ruler in the state is said to have died mysteriously on the eve of his marriage to a new wife.
Police investigation uncovered a syringe containing poisonous substance in the deceased’s compound and it was believed that Amina was responsible for administering the poison on the monarch out of spite.
The 35-year-old woman was arrested in February, 2015 and charged to court for culpable homicide after interrogation confirmed that she committed the alleged crime.
Although her counsel, Shekama Sheltu was disappointed with the outcome of the judgement and resolved to appeal the sentence, the monarch’s eldest son, Abdullahi Zubairu was pleased with the verdict.
