Nasarawa governor’s son arrested for allegedly killing JSS2 student

Police have reportedly arrested the son of Nasarawa state governor for allegedly killing a student.
Mr. Khaleel Umar Al-Makura, the son of governor Umar Al-Makura, was said to have hit a student of Government Secondary School, Lafia, with his car on Monday night.
The JSSS 2 student, Ovye Amos, died instantly.
Amos was said to have gone out around 8pm to get batteries for his flashlight as there was no electricity in the school.
His death sparked a protest in the school, Channels TV reports.
The students took to the streets with placards on Tuesday and demanded justice.
They were calmed by law enforcers and government officials.
Nasarawa state Commissioner for Education, Aliyu Tijjani, told the students that the culprit had been arrested and would be prosecuted.
“He has already been arrested. I want to express my profound dismay and sadness over what happened here yesterday. It is unfortunate, very very unfortunate,” Tijjani said.
The students were unconvinced by Tijjani’s statement.
The police explained that they were investigating the case and the students would be briefed.
“It is a painful thing, we sympathise and empathise with you and we assure you that investigation is ongoing and that particular culprit as we are speaking now is under detention in our custody,” the area commander of Lafia area office, Mr. Maikudi Shehu, said.
