“You must work to chop” – Obaseki cancels ‘free lunch’ in Edo barely 24hrs after inauguration

One of the first actions of newly sworn-in Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki is the cancellation of the ‘free lunch’ project in the state.

The scheme which had been implemented by his predecessor, Adams Oshiomole will be kicked to the curb, as according to Obaseki, citizens “must work to chop.”

“You will find out that our administration is going to be slightly different, if not radically different, from the last four years and the reason is simple. In the last four years, we had to do a lot of politics because we had to recover our state from strange people who took over,” he said at the Government House in Benin on Sunday.

Obaseki assured that “nobody will be left out” during his tenure, as there will be “space for everybody – the young, the not-too-young and the old; we have plans for everybody.”

A slight problem however, according to him, “is that we now have to get value for everything we have. There is no free lunch anymore; everybody must now work to earn. You must work to ‘chop.'”

“One thing I can assure you is that we will only do the right thing because we know what is at stake,” he said about his plans to hit the ground running as soon as possible.
