Muslim worshipers obstruct movement, beat, damage 56-year-old woman’s car in Bayelsa

A woman, Dorothy Doubara has recounted her parents’ unpleasant experience with some Muslim faithfuls who besieged the Opolo road to pray in Bayelsa last Friday.
According to Dorothy, the worshipers obstructed movement on the main road and caused traffic gridlock for other road users during their weekly Jumat prayers.
She said her parents, who were on their way to a Greater Evangelism World Crusade on a Ministry assignment, had to wait no lesser than fifteen minutes to no avail for the worshipers to vacate the road.
The worshipers, after making sure they completed the prayers, allegedly attacked road users who had patiently waited in their vehicles.

“Instead of making way for cars to pass, these Muslims attacked my mum’s car, hitting the car and beat her up seriously a 56 years old woman, even broke her spectacles in the process,” Dorothy shared on her Facebook.
“I wonder if it is now lawful for people to block a major road? I wonder whether we are still safe in our own dear state Bayelsa? Few weeks ago it was the same Muslims attacking my farm destroying crops worth Millions of Naira, yet nobody is saying anything about it,” she further queried.
Thankfully, Dorothy’s mother was unhurt and recovering well from the traumatic experience.
Newsroom Daily had, last year, urged the government to put strict measures in place for all worshipers who engage in unlawful obstruction of movement.
Our correspondent had said at the time, “In as much as it is the government’s responsibility to protect the rights of every citizen and avoid chaos, religious leaders must also make it a duty to ensure their followers don’t engage in breakdown of law and under under the guise of worshipping God.
“These acts of disregard for other citizens’ rights need to stop and the government needs to act!”
