Mother burns 16-year-old daughter with red-hot pressing iron for “disgracing family” over N250
Police in Lagos have arrested a 30-year-old mother, Ayo Sheriff for allegedly using a hot pressing iron to inflict wounds on the body of her 16-year-old daughter, Aishat Sheriff.
Aishat, a secondary school student and also a part time student nurse, was alleged to have misplaced a N250 sum belonging to her boss.
She had been given a N500 sum by her boss with an instruction to hand N200 to someone on her way home, and to use N50 as transport fare. Aishat was expected to return the balance of N250 to her boss the next day.
But she claimed the money was with her mother when her boss demanded for it days after. The boss promptly called Aishat’s mother but she denied having any knowledge about the money.
Police say when Aishat returned home from work, her angry mother plugged an electric iron and used it to inflict serious burns on the teenage girl, accusing her of being a disgrace to the family.
The Command said it had concluded investigation into the case and would charge the suspect to Ikeja Magistrate Court on Monday, April 30 (today).
Sheriff, in the mean time, has lost custody of her children, as Aishat and her two other younger siblings are in the custody of Chosen Child Orphanage Home.
