Mother allegedly kills her 3 children with a hoe

The Police in Malawa are currently holding a 38 year old woman who is alleged to have “brutally murdered” her three sons, reports say.

Violet Tilire Phiri is believed to have had a mental problem, Mchinji police spokesperson says.

According to the policce, Phiri, a single mother, took her three children aged 10, 8, and 4 respectively to her garden some distance away from her home claiming to want to get them mangoes.

On getting there, she allegedly hit each one with a hoe handle, and returned home with only the dead four-year-old child.

Villagers then traced where she went and discovered the dead bodies of the other two children, a police spokesperson told Nyasa Times.

He added that she was found with a health passport which indicated she suffered from a mental illness.

Phiri’s brother confirmed that she had a history of mental illness and that she becomes aggressive atimes.

“The kids have been staying with our mother (their grandmother) but on Wednesday Violet took the kids to the farm where one by one she knocked them on the head and hacked them and then carried one of the children to her house and covered her with a cloth,” he said..
