Man sentenced to jail for cloning Customs boss’ aide’s number
One Usman Baba Yusuf (a.k.a Usman Dakingari) was on Monday found guilty of cloning the phone number of Abdulmumini Bako, a former Special Assistant to the former boss of the Nigeria Customs Service, Abdullahi Dikko Inde.
Yusuf was paraded before Justice Senchi of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Jabi.
Yusuf, a businessman and an indigene of Kebbi State, had pleaded “guilty” when he was arraigned by the EFCC on March 29, 2018 on a four-count amended charge of cheating, impersonation and obtaining by false pretence to the tune of N2 million.
He was charged for the offence along with one Balarabe Abdullahi who had initially absconded, but was later arrested in his hideout.
Yusuf was alleged to have connived with Abdullahi to defraud the Customs officer. Abdullahi, however, maintained he was not guilty of the charge.
Yusuf, on his part, entered a plea bargain with the prosecution, Justice Senchi, noted that he had no record of conviction and “seems to have shown remorse”.
Senchi, thereafter, sentenced him to 12 months in prison with an option of N200,000 fine.
Meanwhile, Abdullahi was remanded in prison custody over his inability to perfect his bail conditions. His trial continues on May 7, 2018.
