Malnutrition: Kano begs for help from the United Kingdom
Kano State Government has requested the intervention of the Department For International Development of the United Kingdom in the area of malnutrition which is currently higher than the national average in the State.
The call was made by the State Deputy Governor Professor Hafiz Abubakar while receiving The Group Managing Director of Palladium which is the Lead Partner of the DFID funded Maternal, New born and Child Health Programme in Nigeria Mr. Kim Bredheur in his office.
He attributed the malnutrition problem to high population, Demography and the economic situation in the country.
He expressed Kano State’s appreciation to the DFID for supporting 6 key areas of health care development in Kano.
Prof Hafiz noted that DFID is the only donor agency that intervened in the infrastructural development among the various development partners.
He urged them to initiate transfer mechanism that will ensure sustenance of all the programmes under their support beyond their intervention period.
He noted that maternal mortality had been drastically reduced in Kano as a result of Government’s programme of free anti natal programme and the DFID intervention.
The commissioner for Health Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso told the Deputy Governor that Palladium is the DFID lead partners in the implementation of Maternal, New born and Child Health programmes in Nigeria .
He said the organisation had supported the state in the development of 5-year Health care plan, Workers Health care Insurance scheme, Infrastructure rehabilitation, Supply of equipment and Drugs.
In his remarks, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Palladium Mr Kim Bredheur said his organisation has been receiving good corporations from government and various communities in executing their programmes.
He called on the government and benefiting communities to own the projects for its sustainability when the intervention is concluded..
