Maiduguri: Two separate bomb attacks leave 8 dead

It has been yet another gory night in Maiduguri, as two separate suicide attacks on Sunday night has left eight persons dead.

The first attack in Muna, an outskirts of Maiduguri, was orchestrated by three male suicide bombers, according to Police spokesman in Borno State, DSP Victor Isuku.

All three attackers and a member of the youth vigilance group who stood to stop them reportedly died.

Two female suicide bombers led the second attack at Kaleri in the Gwange area, detonating the explosive strapped on their bodies. Two other persons lost their lives in the attack.

Their bodies were said to be mangled beyond recognition.

The statement by the spokesman of the Police read: “At about 2020 hours of yesterday (Sunday) 8/1/2017, three male suicide bombers shot sporadically and attempted to infiltrate Maiduguri via Garki Muna village close to a military checkpoint.

“The IED strapped to their bodies exploded killing all of them,and a civilian JTF. Two Ak 47 rifles were recovered , while one was completely destroyed as a result of the explosion.

“Then about 2230hrs same date, there were two suicide bombers attack at Kaleri area of Gwange.

“Four persons including two female suicide bombers died in the explosion.

“Both scenes were swept and rendered safe for public access by personnel from EOD, FSARS and patrol teams of the command at the wee hours of today.”

Isuku assured that normalcy has since returned to the affected areas.

The fresh attacks come on the back of the Nigeria Army declaring it has conquered the last Boko Haram enclave in Sambisa Forest and warning that fleeing members now disguise as regular citizens.
