Little girl “hit by stray bullet” as residents flee from Boko Haram invasion in Maiduguri

A young girl was reportedly hit by a stray bullet when Boko Haram insurgents invaded a community in Maiduguri on Wednesday evening.
Residents of Jiddari Polo reportedly began to flee after the insurgents attacked the Giwa military barracks located on the outskirts of Maiduguri around 7pm.
The attack was successfully repelled by the military.
Many of the insurgents were reportedly killed, while some escaped with bullet wounds.
A resident, Janet Ibrahim, told newsmen, “There were bullets flying everywhere, and all of us were in panic.”

The Deputy Director Army Public Relations 7 Division, headquarters in Maiduguri, Lt. Col. Kingsley Samuel, confirmed the attack in a press statement, but asked that the residents of the town should not panic.
He said, “The situation in Maiduguri is under control. The general public is requested not to panic and stay calm.”
