Law school graduate prevented from Call to Bar for wearing hijab cleared to cover hair
June 22, 2018
Amasa Firdaus, the Muslim law school graduate who was denied access into the venue of the Call to Bar ceremony in 2017 for wearing hijab on her gown, has been cleared to partly cover her hair for the ceremony.
The body of Benchers have decided to call Firdaus to Bar, wearing a small cover for her hair in a style similar to Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa.
No decision has, however, been made yet on the general approval of hijab in Call to Bar ceremonies.
The Muslim groups, however, say they are advocating for the use of hijab in Call to Bar ceremonies, and not just a small covering of the hair as it has been approved for Firdaus.
