LASEMBUS declined to assist man found almost lifeless laying by roadside in his excrete

Residents of Iju Ishaga area of Lagos State, on, January 2, came to the aid of a homeless man, James Owigho Agama who was found lying in his excrete with flies perching on him.

Having found Agama at the roadside almost lifeless, Newsroom reporter who got to the scene called the Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASEMBUS.

After waiting for about two hours for the emergency distress team, they finally arrived the scene with reluctant expressions boldly written on their faces.

The distress team officials, who were believed to have made their way into their offices with a vow to protect lives, made to leave without the man despite arriving two hours after the distress call without properly addressing the emergency.

According to one of the residents, Lekan Fakoyejo, the LASEMBUS officials said it wasn’t their duty to attend to the 62-year-old destitute.

He said, “you can’t even believe they wanted to leave without him, saying he has no physical injury so they are not responsible to attend to him. The LASEMBUS officials now said they would have to leave that it is the responsibility of the social welfare to attend to him”.

Fakoyejo further narrated that “After an ensued argument over the man’s care, they finally said they would bath him at the spot but we (residents) need to provide them with the things they need. They said they had no clothes, water to bath him and any other form of welfare kits. They even said if they will have to carry the man away, I will have to foot his bills and stand as his relative, despite not knowing him”.

However, the man who was found at the point of helplessness claimed to have been abandoned on the spot by Celestial Church of Christ’s church leaders.

Eventually, after much pressure from the residents who refused to allow them to leave, the distress team attended to Ogama and took it upon themselves to take him to the hospital.
