Lakurawa Terrorists Behind Deadly Explosion That Killed Eight In Zamfara
The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed that members of the Lakurawa terrorist group were behind the deadly explosion that occurred along the Gusau-Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area on Wednesday, which killed eight people.
Muhammad Dalijan, the Zamfara Police Commissioner, revealed the development on Thursday during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme. Dalijan explained that while bandits in the region typically lack the ability to create bombs, Lakurawa terrorists were spotted near the blast site moments before the explosion.
“These Lakurawa members, when they were dislodged by the Army in Sokoto and Kebbi, the rest of them that survived the military onslaught were trying to find new enclaves,” Dalijan said.
He emphasised that the use of bombs was not characteristic of local bandits.
“The bandits here in Zamfara don’t use bombs because they don’t know how to make it; they don’t know how to improvise explosive devices,” he added.

The explosion occurred when a group of commuters in a Golf car were passing over a bridge. The bomb, which had been planted under the bridge, detonated as the vehicle crossed, killing the driver and injuring three others.
Dalijan confirmed that the police had received reports of the Lakurawa group’s presence in the area before the attack.
“As we were getting reports, trying to get ourselves prepared to pursue them, this explosion happened. We are 100% sure that Lakurawa are the ones that planted the bomb,” he stated.
The Lakurawa group, which has been linked to terrorist activity in Sokoto and Kebbi states, reportedly migrated from Niger Republic, as confirmed by the Defence Headquarters last month.
