Lagos to divert traffic on Lekki-Ajah road for 8 months over repair works

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to divert traffic along the Lekki-Ajah corridor to enable road rehabilitation works.

According to a statement from Alausa, the project will begin on November 15, 2025, and is expected to be completed by July 15, 2026.

In a statement issued by Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the state’s Commissioner for Transportation, the rehabilitation will be executed in two phases to reduce inconvenience to road users.

The first phase will cover the stretch between Lekki 1st Toll Gate and Lekki 2nd Toll Gate, while the second phase will run from Lekki 2nd Toll Gate to the Ajah underbridge.

Osiyemi explained that some sections of the road will be partially closed during the project, with traffic diversions put in place to ensure movement.

“The project, with preliminary works already in progress, will be carried out in two phases to minimize traffic disruption,” the statement read.

“For Phase 1, work will be done in seven sections. One lane will be closed at a time while the other remains open to motorists. When the first lane is completed, work will shift to the second lane.”

During this stage, motorists heading towards Lekki and Ajah will still have uninterrupted passage.

For Phase 2, which spans from Lekki 2nd Toll Gate to Ajah underbridge, repairs will also be done in sections. Traffic from Ajah towards Lekki will be restricted to a single lane, after which construction will move to the opposite lane once completed.

The government appealed for the cooperation and patience of residents and commuters, urging them to obey traffic officials and follow directional signs throughout the rehabilitation period.
