Lagos: “Ten teachers will die in July” – Perm Sec

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, said the government would pay attention to the health of teachers.

An average of 10 teachers in post-primary teaching service in Lagos state will have died by the time July runs out.

The Permanent Secretary of the state’s Teachers’ Establishment and Pension Office, Mrs Sewan Ayodele-Amosu said this at a Sensitisation Seminar and Capacity Building on Healthy Living for Post-Primary Teaching Staff of the state.

And that figure excludes cases of sudden collapse which lead to either temporary or permanent confinement in bed.

Describing the death rate as disturbing, Ayodele said prevailing economic situation in the country and a dearth of knowledge on healthy living were the major causes of the trend.

“This health seminar will be held quarterly to educate teachers on the importance of healthy living and to provide support for those that have health challenges.
