Lagos Street Party: State government provides alternative routes for road users

Road users will have to ply alternative routes to their destinations between 3rd and 4th of December, as Lagos prepares to shut down several roads with its ‘Lagos Street Party’ at Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island.

The party, which has been described by the state government as “one of its kind”, has been put in place to celebrate the yuletide season with citizens in the state.

For inconveniences that could arise as a result of the celebration, provisions for other alternative routes have been made for motorists.

Traffic would be diverted at the Bishop Oluwole end of Ahmadu Bello Way and at Kuramo fall end, the Acting Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Anofiu Elegushi has said.

Those participating at the event will have an opportunity to park at the Eko Atlantic while all other motorists will use alternative routes. Tiamiyu Savage, Akin Adesola and Bishop Oluwole will be condoned off and will not empty into Ahmadu Bello Way.

All traffic into the venue or location will be condoned off at Bishop Oluwole with participants parking at the Eko Atlantic premises.

Motorists are to connect to Karimu Kotun for further movement, then head to Oloosa Street with that journey terminating at the Ocean view end by Eko Hotels.

Those coming from Ligali Ayorinde and Ajose Adeogun will also terminate their journey at Eko Hotels. The same movement applies to those moving from Civic Centre and Ozumba Mbadiwe, as they will also terminate their journey at Eko Hotels.

For those exiting Eko Hotels however, they will travel through the Roundabout to connect Sanusi Fafunwa through Akin Adesola.

Those returning to Ahmadu Bello will use Akin Adesola from where they can connect to Falomo.

Motorists going to Falomo will then use Akin Adesola to connect Falomo Bridge through Saka Tinubu through Karimu Kotun and Olosa Street.

Elegushi reiterated that adequate plans have been made for personnel and transport management strategies to ensure a hitch free event, adding that there was a need to ensure that people obey traffic rules and regulations.

Concerns that these new developments will hamper business activities in some parts of the state were allayed by the Commissioner, who said measures to minimise its impact on business proceedings are being put in place. He appealed to citizens to support the government’s plan to achieve a successful celebration.

The Lagos Street Party promises lots of thrills and side attractions, with over 500,000 guests expected to grace the event.
