Lagos Police demolish over 1,000 Shanties, arrest 150 in fresh crackdown on criminal hideouts
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested about 150 suspects and demolished over 1,000 shanties and makeshift structures used as criminal hideouts in a follow-up operation targeting a notorious criminal dumpsite in Igando.
The operation, which took place on July 5, 2026, at about 6 a.m., was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations (DOPS) and formed part of efforts to sustain the crackdown on criminal elements following the earlier coordinated boundary sweep codenamed “Operation Ko Si Aye.”
According to a situation report from the Nigeria Police Force, the raid targeted a major dumpsite in Igando suspected to be a hideout for notorious criminals operating within the state. During the exercise, police recovered over 100 motorcycles, a large quantity of suspected hard drugs, as well as arms and ammunition.
The 150 suspects arrested during the operation are currently in police custody undergoing profiling and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation, the police said.
The Nigeria Police Force said further developments from the ongoing investigation would be communicated in due course.
