Lagos: Landlord “stabs tenant of four months to death” in Makoko
Just four months after one Bright Abraham rented an apartment from Gbade Metibemu in the Makoko area of Lagos, the landlord has stabbed his tenant to death.
Metibemu, reports say, stabbed Abraham in the chest following an argument around 10:00 p.m. last Thursday.
Abraham, 35, was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Yaba where he was confirmed dead.
The landlord who had gone to the police to report that his tenant stabbed him was detained after aggrieved friends of the deceased showed up at the same police station.
Here’s how Christian Nwankwo, a resident, recalled the incident to Punch:
“Abraham packed into the house four months ago. He was well-behaved and good-mannered and those were attributes that endeared him to us. His room is beside the landlord’s.
“However, about a week ago, the landlord started complaining that he should stop spreading children clothes on the washing line. He also complained about the faeces of his baby, which he said was soiling the house.
“He started threatening him to leave or he would kill him. We thought it was a joke.”
Another resident said the victim was “stabbed in the chest three times by the landlord”.
Abraham is survived by his wife and four children who have reportedly been moved to their family house.
Lagos police spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos, has confirmed the incident.
She said the landlord had been transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, Yaba..
