Lagos Government shuts Oshodi market over alleged assault on sanitation Officials
The Lagos State Government has ordered the closure of the Oshodi Resettlement Market following an alleged attack on officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), also known as KAI.
Tokunbo Wahab, the state commissioner for environment and water resources, disclosed the development in a statement shared on X on Tuesday.
According to the commissioner, traders at the market obstructed LAGESC officials during an operation aimed at arresting suspected hoodlums and beggars in the area.
Wahab alleged that some traders assaulted the operatives and damaged the agency’s operational vehicles in the process.
“Oshodi Resettlement Market, Oshodi has been shut down. Traders at the market attacked officers and personnel of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, prevented them from arresting hoodlums and beggars who vandalised the agency’s operational vehicles during an enforcement operation earlier today,” the commissioner wrote.
A video posted alongside the statement showed KAI officials patrolling the market premises after it was sealed off.
The operatives were also seen monitoring activities around the area to enforce compliance with the closure directive issued by the state government.
