Lagos: “Government has NOT commenced Computer Village demolition”

The Lagos State government today demolished some shops located at the Ikeja New Garage.

Unconfirmed reports say the garage would be converted to a BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) park.

The place is beside Computer Village which the government announced would be relocated to Katangowa.

But reports flying around say the government has commenced the demolition of Computer Village.

“There is nothing like that,” Osita who sells computers in Ikeja told Newsroom this evening.

He even said nobody will demolish Computer Village itself.

“They’ve been talking about it for 15 years now and have done nothing,” he said.

“Computer Village is not moving anywhere.”

Millions of people visit Computer Village every week. The government said it was relocating Computer Village to stop environmental degradation and traffic logjam, and to make Ikeja completely residential.

“If at the end of this year (2017), the Computer Village is not moved from that Otigba Street in Ikeja to Katangua, I will not come here next year,” Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Wasiu Anifowose, was quoted to have said last week.

“It is a done deal; we have held a stakeholders’ meeting with the traders and they agreed to the relocation plan,” he reportedly said.
