LAGBUS: Nurse remanded in Kirikiri for failing to pay N100 fare

Unless she comes up with N20,000 for bail and a surety in like sum, a 48-year-old nurse will be remanded in Kirikiri prisons till September 20 at least.
Oduwole Taiwo was arraigned before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for failing to pay the correct fare for a ride on a commercial bus run by the Lagos State Government (LAGBUS).
The nurse pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of disorderly conduct and assault occasioning harm.
The court heard that an argument ensued between the accused and a LAGBUS ticketer after the former paid N50 instead of N100 for a trip from Ikorodu to Ojota at about 4:15 p.m on July 10.
“As the ticketer was collecting money from other passengers, she got to the accused and she brought out N50 to pay instead of N100.,” the prosecutor said.
“The conductor became angry and threatened that she would not be allowed to disembark at her bus stop until she pays her bus fare.
“The driver tried to settle the matter and to his dismay, the accused left the ticketer and held the driver’s trousers on motion.
“The accused also unlawfully held the steering of the bus, causing the driver, Ogbogbo Gabriel, to lose control and in the process, the bus hit a BRT bus,’’ he told the court.
Presiding Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
She added that the nurse be remanded at Kirikiri prisons until the bail conditions were met.
Hearing in the case will continue on September 20..
