Kwankwaso Reaffirms Commitment to NNPP, Dismisses Defection Rumors

Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State and the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has strongly dismissed ongoing rumors about his alleged plans to defect from the party. Speaking at the NNPP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Thursday, Kwankwaso expressed unwavering loyalty to the party, emphasizing that both he and the party were in a “comfortable” position and committed to advancing the party’s objectives.

Addressing the concerns of party members and supporters who attended the meeting to hear his stance, Kwankwaso made it clear that the recent reports suggesting his impending defection were without merit. “We have our party, and we are comfortable. We are happy. We are ready to do whatever it takes because we are not in a hurry,” Kwankwaso stated, signaling his intent to stay focused on the growth of the NNPP.

The former governor also highlighted the party’s continued success in Kano and other states, underscoring the party’s stability and its positive trajectory as a major player in Nigerian politics.

Regarding future political negotiations, particularly for the 2027 general elections, Kwankwaso emphasized the importance of collective decision-making. “If there will be any negotiation, it will be collective. It will not be only for the negotiators but for the entire members of this NNPP family,” he affirmed, reinforcing his belief in party supremacy and democratic processes within the party.

Kwankwaso also took the opportunity to caution party members against being swayed by the transient nature of political defections. He expressed his disappointment with those who frequently shift political allegiance, advising that they lacked the necessary experience to make informed decisions. “Those people don’t understand, and they don’t have much experience. They believe that they know when they actually don’t know,” he remarked.

The NNPP leader further urged his party members not to be distracted by the actions of other politicians. “Even if they are interested in knowing, I think they should come and ask one of us,” he said, signaling his openness to addressing any concerns directly.
