Kidnapped 90-year-old cleric regains freedom
Recently kidnapped Administrative Secretary of Plateau chapter of the Jama’atu Nasirul Islam, Sheikh Abdulazeez Yusuf, has regained his freedom, according to JNI spokesman, Sani Mudi.
90-year-old Yusuf was reportedly kidnapped, along with his driver, on his way to condole with the late Sultan of Sokoto, Ibrahim Dasuki’s family on Wednesday.
“The cleric has regained his freedom alongside his driver,” Mudi disclosed on Friday, in Jos.
According to Mudi, the kidnappers abandoned their victims “in an area on the outskirts of Kaduna”, before informing JNI of where they could locate them.
Earlier reports had indicated that N60million ransom was demanded by Yusuf’s abductors, but Mudi declined to comment on whether the sum was paid for his release.
The cleric, who coordinates the activities of JNI in six states, and his driver were kidnapped around Saminaka in Lere Local Government, Kaduna State.
