Kenyan girl seen hanging dangerously on motorbike in viral photo gets help
Help has come the way of 13-year-old Faith Jepchirchir, after a photo of her hanging on a motorbike went viral.
The Standard 5 pupil had gone to Elgeyo Marakwet, Kenya, to fetch firewood for 75-year-old grandmother.
She had to hang dangerously on the firewood as there was no space left for sitting on the motorbike.
The granny has reportedly been raising Jepchirchir and her two siblings through firewood sales since their mother deserted them.
A local NGO has now offered to pay Jepchirchir’s school fees until she completes secondary school.
The teen’s headteacher said the living conditions at home affected her self-esteem, though described her as a hardworking, kind and focused girl.
