Kebbi LG chairman releases names of 25 abducted schoolgirls

Hussaini Aliyu, chairman of Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area in Kebbi State, has published the names of the 25 students abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, during a bandit attack earlier in the week.

The list categorises the kidnapped students according to their classes.

The abduction occurred on Monday when armed men invaded the school at dawn, killing Vice-Principal Hassan Yakubu Makuku and injuring a security guard before whisking away the students.

Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, said additional tactical units have been deployed to reinforce security operations in the area. He disclosed that police operatives, alongside military personnel and vigilante groups, are currently combing suspected escape routes and surrounding forests in a coordinated search-and-rescue mission aimed at rescuing the students and arresting their abductors.

Similarly, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Waidi Shaibu has directed troops under Operation FANSAN YANMA to intensify efforts and “leave no stone unturned” in the ongoing rescue operations. He instructed the soldiers to sustain both day and night offensives until all the abducted students are safely returned.

President Bola Tinubu has also demanded continuous updates on the situation. According to the presidency, the President is receiving reports from Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi on his behalf, as well as from the police and the Department of State Services (DSS).
